Beautiful very rare original book by Kashu Numata 1885 !

Very rare and beautiful book by Kashu Numata: Shuchu Gafu. Kashu Numata> Pictorial monograph of birds, vol 2 of a total of 3, 1885. 23 whole-page and 12 double-page Japanese woodblock paintings of birds in their natural habitat, beautifully detailed. All pages framed with a black or grey line and Japanese characters in the corner. All pictures in great condition with striking colours. Beige/rose cardboard cover with Japanese stitched binding (loose in places) and mounted title on blue patterned paper. 18.2 x 26 x 0.65 cm. 1 yellow page (torn) with Japanese characters attached to front cover, 1 white double page with text and red stamps, last page white with text and red stamps, 1 white page with text attached to back cover. Cover in fairly good condition. Numata (1838-1901) was a specialist painter of birds and nature paintings from Nagoya, a disciple of Gessai. In 1988 he was commissioned to decorate the Imperial Palace. Books by Numata are extremely rare as his prints were usually detached and sold separately. (Can be collected in North London)
